Ashley, when did you start playing golf?

I played in my first junior golf event at the age of 7, but probably had a plastic golf club in my hand before I could walk. My dad was the one who turned me on to golf, but it was the motivation to one day beat my older brother was what kept me going.

Speaking of competition, you’ve been a very successful college athlete. Do you still have ambitions to

compete?
I played Division I at San Diego State University and was captain of the team for 2 years. I was fortunate enough to get the perfect job for me even before I graduated, but knew I never wanted to give up playing competitive golf. I am now in the process in getting into a few tournaments this summer and start working a little bit on my own game.

Tell us a little bit about your current job

I am now an Assistant Golf Professional at Pro Kids and an Apprentice in the PGA Professional Golf Management Program. As the Girls Golf instructor I not only  enjoy teaching the game of golf but am proud that this game is a part of their growth into becoming a young lady and with the relationships I build with my students I hope to impact their lives in a positive way just as many of my coaches did in my childhood.

What are some of your favorite memories playing golf?
My best memories of golf don’t come from rounds or tournaments that I’ve played in, but the memories come from the people I’ve played with and the moments I’ve shared on and off the course.  The memories that most inspire me are one’s like when my whole family was there when my dad made his first hole in one  or from the look on guys’ faces when I step up to the blue tees and out drive them.  Every time I play or teach golf I can add to the long list of aha moments because every time I pick up a club I learn something new.

My Favorite Course: Cypress Point! I had the honor of playing there and the course is simply majestic.

Pre-game Ritual: wake up (slowly but surely), throw on a bit of make up, eat a high-protein breakfast, stretch, hit balls, and roll a few putts

After the game, I celebrate by…rewarding myself with candy or something delicious!

What I hate about golf clothes: growing up, my only options in attire were baggy and not age appropriate! In all of my junior golf photos, my shorts and skirts sit higher than my belly-button – not a good look!

Recent impulse buy: nothing! I’ve been good, I promise (are you reading this Mom?)

On my wish list: an iPad

Favorite Vivacity piece: the sleeveless turquoise golf dress is classy yet fun. The turquoise is vibrant and adds a beautiful pop of color.

How I changed the world today: I just donated a few trashbags full of clothing to the needy. It feels great to reduce clutter and help those in need at the same time

My Motto: “There is nothing I cannot do in the One who strengthens me” -Philippians 4:13

My Favorite Course: Seven Hills in Hemet, CA. This is the golf course my grandparents live on where I first learned the game of golf and continue to share constant laughs and unforgettable memories with the lovely ladies of Seven Hills including my beautiful Grandmother and Mother.

Pre-game Ritual: Running out of the house with my hair on fire because someone has just invited me to play golf…hoping my clubs are still in the back of the car.

After the game, I celebrate by… Having a cocktail at the 19th hole with friends and family.

What I hate about golf clothes: They often don’t have any shape to them. I feel like I look like Sponge Bob Square Pants.

Recent impulse buy: $14 nail polish in Madrid, Spain because my nails chipped while I was there for business and I knew my mother would have a heart attack if she knew my nails were in the condition they were. Funny how your parents still influence you when you are 27 years old and across the world. Love you Mom!

On my wish list: A new driver!

Favorite Vivacity piece: I love the Turquoise Side Zip Skirt with the Pocket.

How I changed the world today: Well I wouldn’t say I’ve changed the world but I do walk to work everyday to avoid using my car and create pollution.

My Motto: She is clothed with strength and dignity and laughs without fear of the future. Proverbs 31:25

My Pre-Game Ritual: Coffee each morning is essential to my swinging freely on the golf course!  Once at the course I do a short 10-15 minute aerobic activity to get my heart rate up and then a few stretches before my first swing. So if you see me running around the parking lot, don’t worry, I am not crazy, I am just loosening up my hips for golf.

My Favorite Day: …is Christmas because I am spending it with family, especially my two grown daughters Whitney and Courtney. As far as my typical favorite day is basically every day, especially the ones I don’t have to go to work and punch a time card. My funniest favorite day is the first time I met my boyfriend Andy and he was getting a ticket picking me up at the airport. Favorite days are every day, I love life and each day is awesome as I live with a quiet heart and peace of mind.

On My Wishlist: For Andy and me to play golf in Ireland with Vivian and her husband John.  Then we would do some sightseeing and play more golf in Europe.  Also, would like to travel and see golf played in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic games.

What I’m Wearing Today: My favorite turquoise Vivacity zip top and skort.

My Motto: I believe in believing and getting your bets straight on the first tee and in life…

My Favorite Course: The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, Home of THE PLAYERS. I walked it as a spotter for NBC Sports all four-tournament days of the 2012 PLAYERS watching the best players in the world. I can’t wait to play it and know it will test every facet of my game. I will let you know how I do!

Recent Impulse Buy: Tennis racket because there are no racquetball courts in Ponte Vedra Beach. So far Andy is up two matches but that will change…

Favorite Vivacity Piece: The long sleeve black crystal top… I love the Swarovski Elements® crystal accents…

How I Changed the World Today: If I can bring a smile to the face of other people I feel like I change the world one smile and one laugh at a time.

Favorite Course & Why:  Pebble Beach.  I shot my best score thanks to my 76 year old caddy! I love the tradition, spectacular views, unpredictable weather conditions, beauty, and the fact that I get nervous so on the 1st and 18th tee box—everyone is watching! What a majestic place!

Pre-game Ritual: I challenge myself to never wear the exact same golf outfit/combination of clothing. I play this little game with myself and shop my closet to find new looks that are comfortable, flattering, feminine, and have an element of the unexpected.  Once I get to the course, I check out the latest golf wear in the pro shop, grab lunch, fill up the cooler then hit a few balls.

After the game, I celebrate over…Collecting money from the guys I played golf with, laughing over the day’s mishaps & great shots with a celebratory cocktail dejour!

My perfect day: Golf first thing in the morning, beach in the afternoon and dinner watching the sunset waiting for the green flash!

Recent impulse buy: A gorgeous area rug for our great room.

On your wish list: As strange as this sounds, I feel like already have it all – an amazing family, a wonderful man, incredible friends and the most adorable puppy who keeps us laughing.  As long as I am growing as an individual and my nearest and dearest are safe & healthy, I couldn’t wish for more!

Favorite Vivacity piece & why: I don’t know if I can pick just one! I love the ruched tops—especially in RED! It makes me feel powerful, confident, feminine and thin (who wants to feel like they have to suck it in all day, plus it hides my problem areas), and is saucy enough to wear from the course to an elegant dinner or business meeting.

Your Motto: My motto or rules of engagement on the course –Appreciate the beauty of being outdoors. Take advantage of not being tied to technology. Respect those around you no matter what their level of play is. Etiquette is simply being sincere even when you don’t know every rule. Emulate those who are better than you. Look fabulous because even if you are playing bad you will still feel good and be taken seriously! Laugh at yourself — there is a reason there are so few people who are on the PGA/LPGA Tour!
